At Warrnambool Primary School we believe in providing a rich mathematics program that provides the students with the understandings and skills they need to become numerate and reach their full potential.   The curriculum covers the three stra‍‍‍nds of Number and algebra, measurement and geometry, and statistics and probability. The Mathematics capabilities of understanding, fluency, reasoning, modelling and problem solving are developed throughout the curriculum as students move from working at a concrete level to the more abstract.  

Every classroom has:

A numeracy wall which supports the learning of the students, the content of which is contributed by teachers and students.

Adequate resources to support the program and which are easily accessible to students

Class sets of Math dictionaries and calculators.  

Our teachers plan collaboratively together to provide targeted, sequential lessons that are scaffolded and differentiated to cater for individual student needs which are supported by rich assessment tasks.

Numeracy Support @ Jamo

The Numeracy Intervention role is mainly around building teacher capacity in teaching mathematics across Years Foundation to 6.  The Numeracy Support person spends a term in each year level to support the teachers in developing a sequential and differentiated program.  The role also includes attending year level meetings, classroom support, intervention within parti‍‍‍cular year levels and ensuring there is a common mathematical language and structure throughout the school.
